Obituary of Sr. Eileen Loehfelm, R.S.M.

Lakewood: Sister Eileen Loehfelm, 54, died peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2007 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. Sister Eileen was born in Brooklyn, NY where she received her elementary school education at Our Lady Help of Christians School. She then attended Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, NJ. She received her Bachelors degree from Georgian Court University and followed with a Masters degree from Central Connecticut College. In 1976, she entered the Sisters of Mercy and began teaching Elementary Education in Mercy Schools throughout New Jersey. She taught in St. Mary, Perth Amboy; St. Elizabeth, Bernardsville; Saint Ann, Keansburg; St. Matthew, Edison and Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City. In 1991, Sister Eileen joined Georgian Court University as Admissions Recruiter. She was very successful in promoting the mission of Georgian Court and was an often sort after person at College Fairs throughout the State of New Jersey. Later, she was invited to join the Advancement Office of GCU as Director of Donor Relations. She successfully worked with donors who were interested in providing scholarships for students in need of financial assistance. One of the highlights of each year was the Scholarship Tea when the donors met the recipients of the scholarship. Sister Eileen continued this work until recently when her illness progressed and she was unable to continue in the position. She died peacefully at the Hospice Unit of Riverview Medical Center with her family and Sisters of Mercy at her side. Visitation will take place at Georgian Court University, Dorothy Marron University Chapel, 900 Lakewood Avenue, Lakewood, NJ on Monday, July 9, 2007 from 6:00 8:00 pm and Tuesday, July 10, 2007 from 9:00 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial immediately following Mass will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
