Obituary of Walter C. Leffert

Walter C. Leffert, age 89, died on July 16, 2007 at his residence in Watchung. He was born in Plainfield and had lived in Watchung for over 65 years. Mr. Leffert served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Engineering Corp in the European Theater. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Leffert was a self-employed painting and decorating contractor in Watchung. He was a charter member of the Community Volunteer Fire Company in Warren, and a life and exempt member of the Watchung Fire Company. He was a long time member of both the Watchung Rotary Club and Wilson Memorial Union Church. Mr. Leffert loved his family, fishing, wood working, yard work and was an avid reader. He is predeceased by a sister, Anna Pray. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Ethel Burnett Leffert; his son, Russell Leffert and his wife Robin of Warren; his daughter, Tracey E. Lacopo and her husband Joseph of Branchville; his sister, Freida Cicero of Middlesex and his grandchildren, Jamie Weinschenk, Keli Reagan, Katelynn, David, Sarah, Emma Grace and Julia Lacopo. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July, 20, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ. Interment will be on Saturday, July 21st, with the procession assembling in the parking lot at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung at 9:45 a.m. and will be leaving at 10:00 a.m. to process to Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Memorial Fund at Wilson Memorial Church.
