Obituary of Dominick S. Belardo
Plainfield: Dominick S. Belardo, Sr., age 92, of Plainfield, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at The Woodlands, Genesis Health Care in Plainfield.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, July 20th at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bernards R.C. Church, George Street and Emerson Avenue, Plainfield at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 with internment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Dominick was a lifelong resident of Plainfield. Active in high school sports, he was known as The Galloping Ghost for his great speed in athletics. He was employed for 34 years as a produce manager for the A&P Supermarkets in Fanwood prior to his retirement in 1977.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Rose E. Belardo (nee Panella); a son, LtColRetUSAF Dominick S. Belardo, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Herndon, Virginia; a daughter, Carol A. Purcell of Maplewood; 5 grandchildren, Robert Purcell of Tokyo, Japan; Timothy Purcell of North Bergen; Kelly Duffy of Huntersville, North Carolina; Christina Vaudo of Vienna, Virginia and Captain Michael Belardo USAF of Warrensburg, Missouri; and 8 great grandchildren.
