Obituary of George J. Fischer
George J. Fischer, age 82, died on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in the Bronx, raised in Brooklyn and resided in Hillside before moving to Warren in 1969.
He proudly served in the Mortar Battalion of the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Fischer received his Bachelors Degree in 1949 and his Masters Degree in 1953 from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He worked as a Metallurgical Engineer for Western Electric in Kearny for four years. He then became a Professor and Department Head at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, retiring in 1990.
He was an amateur photographer who enjoyed traveling to the West Coast, Europe and many other trips.
Mr. Fischer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret W. Burklund Fischer; his son, Carl Fischer and his wife Laurie of Whitehouse Station, NJ; his daughter, Jeanne Watters and her husband Rob of Harrisburg, PA and his grandchildren, Scott and Julie Fischer and Nicole and Dana Watters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Marys Stony Hill Church. Entombment will be at St. Marys Stony Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 3 to 6 pm.
