Obituary of Yolanda Pecoraro

Yolanda (Nee Orecchio) Pecoraro, age 99, died on Friday August 24, 2007 at the Raritan Health and Extended Care Center in Raritan. Yolanda was born in Avelino, Italy on August 18, 1908 to the late Louis Orecchio and Carmella Demeo and came to America when she was 14 months old. She attended grade school and high school in Somerville, and then attended vocational school for beauty culture. She became manager/operator of the Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture in Newark from the mid 1930s to the mid 1940s. Yolanda was married to Joseph Albert Pecoraro from April 30, 1939 to the time of his death, on September 18, 1970. With her husband, she owned and operated a beauty salon in Newark in the 1940s and then moved the business to their new residence in Scotch Plains from 1951 to 1970. Few years after becoming a widow, she moved to Middlesex where she lived for about 25 years. In spring of 2000, declining health necessitated her becoming a resident of a long-term care facility in Raritan, NJ. She is survived by a son, Joseph P.C. Pecoraro and his wife Diana F. of Middlesex; two grandchildren, Lisa M. Comune and Joseph T. Pecoraro both of Bridgewater; and five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Alivia Jonathan, Hannah and Stella. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
