Obituary of Michael Rudolph DeAngelis

Warren: Michael R. DeAngelis, 84, of Warren, NJ died Friday afternoon in Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Ward DeAngelis of 47 years, two daughters Karen Ann McKenna and husband Dr. James J. McKenna III, Clarks Green, PA; Patricia DeAngelis Szipszky and husband Robert James Szipszky, Newtown Square, PA: three sons Michael R. DeAngelis and wife Tricie, Chalfont, PA; Charles Albert DeAngelis and wife Traci, Mountainside, NJ; James Ward DeAngelis and wife Kathleen, Annandale, NJ; 10 grandsons and six granddaughters; and sister, Vera Cranford, Windsor, CO. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles E. DeAngelis, Mountainside, NJ. He was born in Scotch Plains on October 1, 1922, the son of the late Lena and Charles DeAngelis, Watchung, NJ. He graduated from North Plainfield High School and was a parishioner of St. Josephs Church, North Plainfield. There he was a past President of the Holy Name Society and sang in the church choir. Later, he became a parishioner at Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren, NJ. There he was a Third Degree Charter Member of The Knights of Columbus in Council 11409, sang in the church choir, was a commentator and served on the parish council. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II on the island of Saipan. He was a Construction Superintendent, building homes in North Plainfield, Watchung and Warren, as well as commercial buildings in New Jersey. He subdivided and developed his grandfathers farm in Warren and lived there for 47 years. He was a loving, caring and devoted husband who cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. At the time of his death, he was researching and writing a book about his familial ancestry dating back 300 years to Barga, Italy. He was an avid golfer and birdied a hole at St. Andrews, Scotland. He was an enthusiastic member of the Old Guard in Summit and a past member of the Optimist Club in Warren. His interests included oil painting, and playing the violin and guitar. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday September 5, 2007 at Higgins Funeral Home, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ followed by Mass of Resurrection at 10:15 am at Our Lady of the Mount Church, 167 Mt. Bethel Road, Warren, NJ. Internment, St. Marys Cemetery, Watchung, NJ. Friends and family may call Tuesday, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at The Higgins Funeral Home.
