Obituary of Clifford Warren

Clifford Arthur Warren passed away on Oct 12, 2007. He had been in declining health over the past few years. Clifford was born on Nov. 6, 1913 in Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Cooper Union in 1936 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. While he was at Cooper Union, he also started working at Bell Telephone Laboratories starting out as a messenger boy. Cliff worked his way up over the years to become an Executive Director at Bell Labs. His work involved the development of radar for the US Navy during World War II. After World War II, his major responsibilities were the research and development of the ballistic missile defense system. Clifford was recognized with numerous awards over his professional career. He was most proud of being elected a FELLOW of IEEE in December of 1970 and being a two-time recipient of the Armys Outstanding Civilian Service Award in 1969 and 1972. Clifford retired from Bell Labs in 1976. Clifford Warren was very involved in the community. He was a member of two school boards (Watchung Borough and Watchung Hills Regional High School), a member of the Watchung Borough Council, a teacher in the Sunday school at Wilson Memorial Church, and a member of Boy Scout Troop 32 committee. He received the Optimist Man of the Year award in 1978 given out by the Optimist Club of Watchung. He also proudly served as commodore of the Barnegate Bay Yacht Racing Association (BBYRA). Clifford was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Alice James. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Margaret Taylor, who brought him much joy in his senior years. He is also survived by his son Paul Warren and daughter-in-law Judi Warren of Ottsville, PA, his son Robert Warren and daughter-in-law Barbara Warren of Warren, NJ, his daughter Constance Miller and son-in-law James Miller of Orinda, CA, and his son Christopher Warren and his daughter-in-law Lisa Warren of Medford, NJ. His 9 grandchildren, Joy Bennett, Leigh Warren, Jeffrey Warren, Jennifer Warren, Abigail Miller, Nathan Miller, Sarah Warren, Meghan Warren, and Parker Warren and his only great grandchild, Emily Bennett, were a source of pride for him. A memorial service in his honor will be given this Sunday, October 14th, at 2 pm in the Wilson Memorial Church, 7 Valley Road Watchung.
