Dear Jody, Mary, and Family,
I have so many memories of fun times with your mom. When I was in NJ after Christmas last year, I was planning on visiting her in her 'new digs." Little did I suspect I would run into her first in the Shop Right parking lot! She was parked facing me, and couldn't get her key to work in the car w/o the alarm going off. She was worried the police might think she was trying to steal the car (not likely!). I went over to see if I could help, saying, "I should have known if there was something crazy going on, you'd be in the middle of it!" She laughed & laughed. The next afternoon we had a wonderful visit. I will truly miss her positive, caring advice & concern. Deepest sympathy to all of you. I know she will be greatly missed in many lives.

Back in the ancient 1970s, I was introduced to a soft spoken witty woman who happened to be my college pal's mother. I remember her warmth and tolerance of college girls watching and complaining of the awful acting emanating from the 8 Million Dollar Man on her TV. I was impressed too by her owning a business, one that required a skill of knitting, something unattainable for me.
Recently I became reacquainted and smitten with her again while sharing guffaws at a classic film, playing croquet, and seeing her instantly charm a sometimes Cujo named Puff.
I am grateful for those moments, and for her producing a person as unique and caring as her daughter, Mary Ethel, and in turn my luck in knowing Mary Ethel and her unparalleled husband, Joe

Our family had the pleasure of knowing the Schmidt family as friends and neighbors for many years, and I have fond memories of numerous play dates and birthday parties enjoyed at their home. I share your sadness as you mourn the passing of your mother and grandmother.

I didn't know Mrs. Schmidt that long. The time that I did have the pleasure to spend in her presence brought a bright light of a woman so very wise and a person who chose her words with care and wit. It was obvious that she held language in a very high place and it showed. My dearest memory of her will be an outdoor BBQ that I shared with her , her daughter Mary Ethel, her husband Joe, my wife and my Mother in-law this past summer. Jean wasn't feeling her best in the morning that day, but was determined to make it to the BBQ. She gamely ate a burger and potato salad and then to top it off handily kicked our collective butts in croquet. She was an extraordinary person and I was honored to have met her. God Bless.

Dear Mary Ethel and Joe,
We were sorry to get your message this evening regarding your lovely other. All those platitudes about being in a "better place" are not all that helpful at this point so we will spare you ...
I always felt that after one of your visits, I 'd feel I knew your Mother a little bit better - even though I never did get to meet her. She was in our "chats" so often, and didn't we have high hopes for your bringing her here to meet my Mother ...and Morris.
Please know we are thinking of you both. You will, in time, be greatly comforted by all the good memories and also in the fact that you made her life so much more endurable during these last difficult months. We will be sending a donation to the Smile Train and hope to see you soon.
Love from us.

Jean was my mother"s cousin and and I
remember Jean and John, Betty and Steve when they came to visit Gert and Ethel.
It would always be time for a picnic.
Jean was a kind gentle person with a unique laugh. They loved bridge I even got drafted once.
I am so sorry for your loss. It is very painful to lose someone who has been so very special.

I have warm memories of Aunt Jean and Uncle John from my youth (a wedding dance comes to mind first). My thoughts are with your family in this time of loss.

I will always cherish the sweet times I spent with Jean, but especially the weekend of laughter, watching a wonderful, but unending miniseries we thought was just a regular 2 hour movie, and a nice stroll enjoying the flowers in the park. I consider Mary Ethel and Joe two of dearest friends and thank them for introducing me to Jean, a truly wonderful woman I will always treasure in my heart. May God bring you all much peace and comfort in the knowledge that she is in heaven now with John and free from pain. I will miss her greatly.
