Obituary of Norman Eugene Lippman
Boynton Beach, FL: Norman E. Lippman died at home on Thursday, January 31, 2008 after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Ceil Taub Lippman and the son of the late David and Lena (LuLu) Lippman. He is survived by his daughter Joanne (Mitch) Leibovitz and son Jonathan Lippman; grandfather of Dana and Dan (Nancy) Leibovitz and great grandfather of Kaiya. Norman is also survived by his beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard, Myrna, Robert and Norma Lippman.
Those who knew and loved Norman will best remember his bright ever-present smile and love for books. He was an avid reader, preferring modern classics such as "Gunga Din" and "Catch 22", often writing comments in the borders of his personal copies. He had a prodigious memory of historical events, books and movies. Consistent with his passion for education and knowledge, he was a volunteer mentor for many years at an elementary school in Boynton Beach.
Mr. Lippman attended Scotch Plains High School where he was president of the Debating Society and was captain of the football team. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1940, he entered an engineering program at Princeton University and was sent to South America for 18 months as a civilian in the US Army surveying airstrips in preparation for the oncoming war. Upon his return, he married Ceil, his wife of 64 years, and entered Officers Candidate School after which he served in the Engineering Corps in Okinawa.
After the war, Mr. Lippman worked for Somerset Plumbing Supply Co. in Plainfield, and ultimately became president. Much of his free time was spent reading in the local libraries or playing golf at Twin Brooks Golf Club where he and his wife were members for many years. Norman and Ceil retired to Florida in 1987 and were members of Indian Springs Country Club.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 12:30 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, followed by interment at Hebrew Cemetery in South Plainfield. The family will return to the home of Norman's niece, Stacey Iler following the interment.
