Obituary of Rino Ghidella

Rino Ghidella, age 82, died on Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at his home in Watchung. Born in West New York , NJ , he was a lifelong resident of Watchung. In 1976, he was honored by the Citizens of Watchung for sharing in the growth of the community. Mr. Ghidella served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Corps of Army Engineers and was honorably discharged, receiving a distinguished service medal. He was employed for 60 years at Thul Auto in Plainfield , NJ . Rino took great pride in his home, loved working outdoors in the yard and sharing the history of growing up in Watchung. He was an avid antique car buff and rebuilt his own antique car. His greatest passion though, was his love of God, family, and tradition. Rino is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeanette (Scarbaci) Ghidella; two sons: Richard and his wife Joanne of Bushkill, PA; Peter Ghidella of Watchung; grandson Alexander (AJ) Ghidella; two sisters: Emily LaCosta of Timonium, MD and Elda Vanola of Naples, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Josephine Ghidella, former owners of Pedeflous Restaurant, Watchung, NJ and one brother, Ernest Ghidella. A gathering for family and friends will take place on Thursday, February 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by private funeral services and entombment at 11:00 a.m. at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Millington Baptist Church, 520 King George Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, to further spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
