Obituary of Nicholas Importico, Jr.

Nicholas Importico, Jr., 93, son of the late Nicholas and Jenny Naplitano Importico, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at his home. Born in Plainfield, and raised in North Plainfield, he moved to Toms River in 1980. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was employed for 34 years as a custodian by the Plainfield Board of Education. Mr. Importico had been an assistant pro at Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung and was a member of the Cedar Creek Country Club in Toms River. He was very active in the Fathers Club at Mount St. Marys Academy in Watchung and the Boy Scouts. He was presently a member of St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Toms River and its Holy Name Society. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Nicholas enjoyed golf andcycling. In his youth, he competed as an amateur cyclist. His brothers, Thomas, Frank and Louis Importico all predeceased him. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Julia E. Lendene Importico; two sons, Nicholas J. (Sandra) Importico of North Plainfield and Ronald D. (Donna) Importico of Warren; a daughter, Ann (Ronald) Hazelton of South Port, NC; two sisters, Camela Importico of South Plainfield and Lucy (Vincent) DeFillippo of Lakewood; seven grandchildren and fourgreat grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at a time to be announced at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Josephs R.C. Church in North Plainfield and interment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm
