Obituary of Rose Hecker

Watchung: Rose (Weiner) Hecker, died on Thursday, March 27, 2008, her one-hundredth birthday. She had appeared yesterday on the Willard Scott show to celebrate her 100th birthday. She was born in Brooklyn and had lived in Toms River from 1949 until she moved to Gulfport, FL in 1972. In 2005 she moved to Watchung to live with her daughter, Joan. Mrs. Hecker started working at the age of 10 and much later opened the Rose Art Shoppe in Brooklyn where she was the knitting designer and instructor. After moving to Toms River, she and her husband operated a chicken farm for many years. She retired in 1972. Mrs. Hecker was a strong, independent woman with a zest for life. She enjoyed playing Mah-Jong, doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Mrs. Hecker is predeceased by her husband, David Hecker in 1987 and her son, Bernard Hecker in 1984. Surviving are her daughters, Marlene Perlstein and her husband, Morton of White Plains, NY and Boca Raton, FL, Joan Plasner and her husband, Israel of Watchung; her daughter-in-law Marlene Hecker of Watchung; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Toms River Jewish Cemetery, Toms River.
