Obituary of Joseph M. Doherty

Born in Bernardsville, NJ and remained a resident in Bernardsville until moving to McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, NJ in 2002. Son of Michael J. and Mary Hassett Doherty, he graduated from Bernardsville High School and attended night classes at Rutgers College. He was employed by the Berrnardsville Post Office for many years. After leaving the Post Office, he was employed by ATT Learning Center in Basking Ridge, NJ. He was a member of the National Guard followed by active duty in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Doherty donated, at no expense to the Boro of Bernardsville, some of the land for Clairmont Park Park in Bernardsville. He was a faithful member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and of the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, both in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bernardsville. He died peacefully on March 27, 2008 at McAuley Hall, where for 5 years, his days were filled with great conversations about his life, service to his country, love of God, family, the Sisters of Mercy and his days in Bernardsville and always, gratitude for everything. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
