Obituary of John Joseph Villa
John Joseph Villa, age 82, died on Monday April 14th, 2008 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Jersey City, he resided in North Plainfield for many years.
He served in the Army during World War II, and went on to graduate from Jersey City State College in 1951.
He owned and operated Villa Furniture in North Plainfield from 1966 to present, he also owned a second store in Washington Township, that he started in 1986 which also continues today. A communicant of St. Josephs Church for over thirty years. He enjoyed fixing things around the house and was lovingly called Mr. Fix It. One of his proudest accomplishments was being happily married for 60 years to his wife Anna.
Surviving are his wife Anna (Hannis) Villa; his 5 children Mary Ann Gately and her husband Paul of Manasquan; John Villa and his wife Sharon of Toms River; Joseph Villa of Bridgewater; Thomas Villa of South Plainfield and Ann Villa of Plainsboro; 9 grandchildren Jillian, Janine, Justin, Matthew, Meredith, Natalie, Rachael, Nicholas and Jessica; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers Vincent, Joseph and Bernard.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Josephs R.C. Church, North Plainfield. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment will be at St. Bernards Cemetery in Bridgewater.
