Obituary of Henry A. Flower
Henry A. Flower, age 84, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bound Brook and had lived in North Plainfield before moving to Watchung in 1960.
Mr. Flower served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II from 1943-1945.
He attended Rutgers University.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, Mr. Flower was a Mechanical Engineer and co-owner of Elling Brothers in Readington.
Mr. Flower was a member, a Trustee and former president of Plainfield Country Club and he served on the board of Somerset Trust Bank.
In 1942, he received a letter from Connie Mack inviting him to try out for the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team as a catcher.
Mr. Flower is survived by his wife, Vivian Stabile Flower; his sons, Wayne Flower and his wife, Jeanne of Yardley, PA and Chris Flower and his wife, Megan of Mt. Laurel; his daughter, Diane Becker of Gladstone; his brothers, Kenneth Flower of Bridgewater and John Flower of PA and his 4 grandchildren, Adrienne, Jeffrey, Brady and Megan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18th at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Marys Stony Hill Church. Cremation is Private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Josephs School for the Blind, 253 Baldwin Ave., Jersey City, NJ 07306 or to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
