Dear Judy and Fred: An old friend from Dartmouth who knew that I'd been a friend of Marvin's read about his death in a Jewish newspaper and sent me an email. I can't tell you how sorry Elaine and I are. Marvin and I had drifted apart long ago, probably in part because we moved away and got to Plainfield less and less over the years; in fact, I think we last saw him at my mother's funeral fifteen years ago. But that doesn't have anything to do with how sad we feel and how keenly the news brings back those Salad Days when we were immortal and endlessly fun-loving. I can't remember those times without having Marvin play a large part in the memories and in the sense that it was an especially warm and happy time. Please know that you're in our thoughts and we send our love. Michael

I met my old friend Marvin in 1971 and am proud of being one of the longest running patients in Marv's files...37 years! Coming out of the Air Force, my dental work had been poorly handled. Marv redid everything and showed me the importance of regular care and cleaning. He was kind to my father, who had come on hard times, and helped him out with first class treatment and a set of dentures of which Dad was so proud, he showed them off at the VFW...a walking advertisement. I actually looked forward to visits with Marv because it was a great way to catch up on what all my friends and business associates were really up to; Marvin had stories on all of us. So I lift my Martini glass to my old pal Marvin Pinn and say: Here's to a great man who made art out life and living an art. Kathleen and I will miss you terribly, but we will think of you with love and gratitude every time we brush our toofies. God bless you Hil and your wonderful family. And thank you for giving Marvin the strength and will to fight on so valiently for so long. He never once complained to me...that is because he knew he had lived one hell of a great life.
Amen old friend.

I can't say how sorry I am. Your house always felt like home to me, and it was because of your whole family. I always had such a great time hanging out with your parents and brother, even when they were making fun of me, which was often. I am so sad and sorry I wasn't able to be with you yesterday, but know that you and your family have been in my thoughts and my heart. Please give your mother a big hug for me. Give your whole family my love.

Dear Hillary and Family,
What can we say or do? Nothing. The pain is just too great. Dr. Pinn was not only an excellent dentist he was a good friend. We just don't know what we are going to do. He was such a vibrant person and so much a part of our lives. He will be truly missed and our thoughts will be with you always.

You are in our hearts and prayers. Marvin will never be far away and will live in our hearts forever. What a great example of a human being. A memory---when he gave Jim his tux to wear on cruises. Whenever we see photos of Jim in his tux, we think of Marvin.

I know Marvin dealt bravely with his illness for such a long time. I'm sorry he was afflicted so. He was truly a Beautiful Human Being.
I knew Marvin from the beginning of my practice of Oral Surgery in Somerville. He was always The Consummate Professional. It was a pleasure and honor to treat his patients. He always gave them his Best... and that was Phenomenal!
This world will sorely miss him.
Sincerely,
Steve Wolf
