Obituary of Anthony Francis Petrella
Easton PA: Anthony Francis Petrella Jr., age 81, died on Thursday May 22, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem PA. Mr. Petrella was born in Newark and spent his childhood in Plainfield. He had resided in Scotch Plains for 40 years and in Mountainside for five years before moving to Easton two years ago.
Mr. Petrella was co-owner of Petrella Brothers Construction, Inc. with his three brothers Ralph, Patrick and Louis. He later founded A.K.A. Masons, Inc. in Scotch Plans which he ran until his retirement in 2000
He is a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Petrella was a long time communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church in Scotch Plains and recently was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Mountainside. He loved to golf and travel and was a member of the Metuchen Country Club for 40 years.
He is predeceased by his wife Antoinette Louise Petrella in 2005; his sister Madeline; and five brothers Ralph, Patrick, Louis, Angelo and Joseph, who was killed on the beaches of Normandy.
Surviving is a daughter Kathleen A. Sullivan of Easton PA; two grandchildren Kristina Danielle and Anthony Eric; a sister Doris Petrella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday May 29, 2008 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Mountainside. The interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
