Obituary of Grover Joseph Wilson
Grover Joseph Wilson, age 89, died on Monday, May 26, 2008 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Plainfield and raising their family in Somerset County, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson retired to Cape Coral FL where they lived for nine years. After a two-year stay in San Rafael, CA to be near their daughter, they returned to NJ in 2005, residing in Bridgewater/ Bedminster.
Prior his retirement in 1983, Mr. Wilson was the General Manager of Federated Metals Corp. a division of ASARCO, Inc., in Somerville. Previously, he had a long career as an executive at Federal Bronze Products in Newark, Wood Newspaper Machinery Corp and the Walter Scott Company, both in Plainfield.
He was a long time member of the Raritan Valley Country Club. Mr. Wilson was a past director of the Somerset Valley Chamber of Commerce, the past president of the Somerset County Vocational and Technical Institute and a member of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Rutgers University.
Mr. Wilson was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, enjoying countless hours with good friends and his family in the outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his many friends and thoroughly enjoyed reaching out to young people, mentoring them through their careers.
He is predeceased by a son, Grover C. Wilson, in 1991.
Surviving are: his wife, Regina Bennett Wilson; daughter, Anne Wilson, and her husband, Richard Cohn, of San Rafael, CA.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Wilson of Clinton; and five grandchildren Grover T., Theodore and Bennett Wilson and Ryan and Grace Cohn. He also leaves his godson, John Coley of Warren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday May 29, 2008 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 followed by a 10:00 am funeral mass at St. Marys Stony Hill R.C. Church in Watchung. Interment to follow at St. Gertrudes Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Charitable donations can be made to the Somerset County Vocational and Technical Institute in his memory.
