Obituary of Evelyn Mina Adkin
Evelyn Mina (Schlichting) Adkin, age 90, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at her sons home in Hardy, VA. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Rhode Island, New Orleans, Danbury, CT, then Toms River before moving to Bridgewater.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Adkin worked as a cashier at Shirleys Liquor Store in Danbury Ct.
Mrs. Adkin was an excellent seamstress, doll maker and had volunteered in the womens ministries at both St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church in Danbury, CT and in St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Stanley Adkin in 1979, a son, Thomas F. Adkin in 2001 and a son-in-law, Elston J. Dodge in 2004.
Surviving are two sons, George Adkin and his wife Nicole of Johns Island, S.C. and Ronald Adkin of Hardy, VA; two daughters, Elaine Dodge of Lynchburg, VA and Janice Staiger and her husband Vincent J. of Bridgewater, NJ. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury, CT at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2008. Interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Danbury, CT. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
