Obituary of Richard J. McAleer
Warren: Richard J. McAleer, age 81, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and had lived in Warren since 1958.
Mr. McAleer served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
He graduated from Plainfield High School and attended Niagara University in New York and Rutgers University.
Mr. McAleer was the Secretary/Treasurer for Virkotype Co. in Plainfield, NJ for many years before becoming the owner and partner with Roy E. Curtis of the Logan Printing in Perth Amboy.
He was a member of the Union Village United Methodist Church in Warren for 50 years, the Chaplain of the American Legion Post #293 in Warren and a member of the American Legion for 60 years. He was a trumpet player for the Hackettstown Community Band. He joined the Mt. Bethel Volunteer Fire Company #1 on 4/19/1963 and went to his first fire on 4/20/1963. He was their Captain from 1965 to 1980.
Mr. McAleer is predeceased by his son, Richard J. in 1989.
Survivng are his wife of 61 years, Jean A. Chappell McAleer; his sons, John R. McAleer and his wife, Jann of Pittstown and James R. McAleer and his wife, Lisa of Stewartsville, NJ; his daughter, Kathleen J, Isaacks and her husband, Henry of Chicago, IL; his sister, Jessie Lodge of Middlesex; his nephew, John C. Lodge; his seven grandchildren, John, Jr., Kristina, Andrew, James, Jr., Karl, Jennifer Collins and John Rychlicki, Jr; his five great grandchildren, Cody, Garrett, Abigail, Jessica and Brigid.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the Union Village United Methodist Church, Hillcrest Road in Warren, NJ. The interment will be at Long Hill Cemetery in Stirling. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
