Obituary of Viola L. Pomelek

Viola L. Pomelek of Warren and North Brunswick, NJ passed away on July 30, 2008 at Margaret McCarrick Center in Somerset, NJ. Viola was 95 years old. Born Viola Lucy Newmiller on June 9, 1913 in Plainfield, NJ, she attended Emerson Elementary School in Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1931 and then pursued a career in nursing. She became a registered nurse and graduated from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in 1934. Viola worked full and part time for 40 years at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield. In 1947, she married Emil, the love of her life. They lived in Dunellen and in 1952 moved to Old Stirling Road in Warren, NJ. Emil predeceased Viola, passing on February 8, 1991. Viola loved her garden, her family and always showed her love to all who came to know her. As a registered nurse, Viola found her calling because she had the love and caring it takes to help others. She was a member of the Muhlenberg Hospital Alumni Association. Viola was predeceased by her parents, William and Nancy Newmiller of Warren, NJ and her brother, William Newmiller of Westfield, NJ. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Gochal and her husband Gary and their children, Jacquelyn and Scott Gochal of North Brunswick; her son, Emil Pomelek of Shahola, PA; granddaughter, Kimberly Stine and her husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Andrew Stine and her niece Beverly Bass and her husband Kirt of Manahawkin, NJ. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield from 9-10 am followed by a 10:00 am service at the funeral home with Pastor Peter Pendell officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
