Obituary of William D. Miller, Jr.
William D. Miller, Jr., age 85, died on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Newark and had lived in Warren for many years.
Bill graduated from Columbia High School, Maplewood, NJ. He enrolled at Lehigh University and joined the Naval Reserve, during World War II and was sent to M.I.T. Cambridge, Mass in the Navy V-12 program. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the Civil Engineering Corps. Bill returned and graduated from Lehigh after World War II.
He started his career with Exxon Mobil at the BayWay refinery, Linden, NJ. He then served as Project Manager for the construction of two process units at the Augusta Refinery, Sicily, Italy. He retired from Exxon Mobil as Project Manager in BayWay, NJ having been with the company for 38 years. He also retired as Lt. Commander from the United States Naval Reserve.
He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Melissa.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Halsey Miller; his loving children, William H., Douglas, Kathryn, Richard and his wife, Doris and his dear grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 12th at 12:00 noon at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by entombment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
