Obituary of Edward L. Bowne
Edward L. Bowne, Sr., 90, recently of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away on April 26, 2013.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 1 from 9:15 am to 10:15 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Mary's-Stony Hill, 225 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ. Internment will be at 2:00 pm at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
Ed grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1941.He and his wife, Peg, raised their family in Linden, NJ and retired to Bayville NJ in 1985 after working for Standard Oil, Bird Roofing and Food Fair. They moved to Bridgewater NJ in 2009 to be closer to their family.
During World War II, Ed served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Falgout (D.E. 324) and was very proud of his service to his country.
Ed was a fervent contributor to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Bayville, NJ. He was a member of the Ocean Nature and Conservation Society and was member of their Bluebird Watch for many years. He also belonged to the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association and attended many of their reunions.
Ed was predeceased by his parents James Stanley and Sadie (Klush) Bowne, his brother Stanley and an infant daughter, Judith.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret H. Bowne (Peg Holt). They would have been married seventy years on May 16. Ed is also survived by his children Edward L. Bowne, Jr. (Ned) and his wife Nancee of Bethlehem, PA., Jan Bowne Senese of Hillsborough, NJ, Charles H. Bowne (Chuck) of Roselle, NJ, his grandchildren Meredith Bowne Bove and her husband Paul of Potomac MD, Patricia Senese Mobus and her husband Greg of Bridgewater,NJ, Caroline Bowne Wieand and her husband Ryan of Bethlehem, PA and Brian Senese of Hillsborough, NJ. He is also survived by six great grandchildren: Alexander and Juliana Bove, Ava and Lia Mobus and Addison and Connor Wieand.
