Obituary of Salvatore Straniero
Salvatore T. Straniero, age 84, died on October 7, 2008 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL. Born in Holmdel, NJ he had resided in Scotch Plains before moving to Vero Beach 29 years ago.
Mr. Straniero worked for the U.S. Postal Service office for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1979.
He served in the US Army during World War II.
Mr. Straniero was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church; the Italian American Club; Senior Center; Fairlane Harbor Club and the Vero Beach Volunteer Ambulance Squad in Florida; Exempt Fireman, NJ.
Survivors include his son Thomas G. Straniero and his wife Barbara of Scotch Plains, NJ; granddaughter Alyssa of Scotch Plains; sisters Florence Garaffa and Mary Frost of Hazlet, NJ. Mr. Straniero was preceded in death by his wife Philomena in 2007.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 237 E. Marks Street, Orlando, FL. 32803 in memory of Mr. Straniero.
Visitation will be from 9 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17th, 2008 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the visitation at 12 noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church in Scotch Plains. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ.
