Obituary of Valerie S. Hill
Valerie S. Hill, age 66, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. She was born in Elizabeth and grew up in Scotch Plains and had lived in Fanwood before moving to Warren in 1972.
Mrs. Hill received her AB in History and Political Science in 1963 from Douglass College, her MEd in Guidance and Personnel in 1964 from Rutgers University and her second Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1978 from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She also pursued graduate studies in School Psychology at New York University. She was a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society.
She had worked as a Guidance Counselor in South Plainfield and as a School Psychologist in Roselle and Bedminster.
Mrs. Hill attended Wilson Memorial Church with her husband.
She loved quilting, sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Hill; her daughters, Cindy Mangan and her husband Kevin of Oceanside, NY and Dawn Patston and her husband Dale of Norwalk, CT; her brother, Dr. Fred Loy of Bennington, VT and Jeff Loy of Chester, NJ and her grandchildren, Colin and Connor.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung followed by interment at Scotch Plains Baptist Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. only at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
