Obituary of Sophia Mae Hill

Sophia Mae Cannon Hill, 81 of Plainfield died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Her family was with her showing their love and support. Sophia was the third of nine children born to the late General and Daisy Cannon of Bracey, VA She met her husband, Adorth, there who she is predeceased by since 2001.After having supporting her husband's military career, which required much travel, Sophia and her family relocated to Plainfield in 1969. She worked at the Dietary Department at Muhlenburg Regional Medical Center, where she took pride in her care and treatment of the patients. She remained for 23 years until her retirement in 1992. Sophia was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield. After her retirement she became more active by becoming as a member of the Altar Guild. Sophia loved being a mother most in life. She gave a lot to her children and grandchildren. She adored them all and the family adored her. Sophia was an avid cook, gardener, seamstress, and reader. Sophia is survived by her four children Sylvia and her husband Billy, Adorth Jr. Amona and her husband Sam, Aurora; five grandchildren, Christopher, Lisa, Chad, Zachary and Matthew: five sisters, Agnes, Anna, Ethel, Sadie and her husband Peter, Louise; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 31, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church located at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and West Seventh Street Plainfield. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals located at 209 West Eight Street in Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society at 6525 N. Meridian, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
