Obituary of Sr. Mary Rose Burghardt
Watchung: Sister Mary Rose Burghardt, 94, died on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Haven Hospice/Mary Anne Hale Pavilion at JFK Medical Center in Edison.Sister Mary Rose was born in New Brunswick and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1935. She received a BS degree in Social Studies from Georgian Court University, Lakewood. Sister began her teaching career in Saint James, Red Bank and continued teaching for more than fifty years from Holy Spirit in Atlantic City and Absecon, Saint Nicholas in Atlantic City, Holy Cross in Rumson, Saint Mary in South Amboy, Saint Mary Academy in Lakewood and in 1979 returned to Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung. She retired at Mount Saint Mary in 1991 and was a resident of Gabriel Hall Retirement Community where she continued her ministry of prayer and hospitality until her death.Her twin sister, Rose Donahue of New Brunswick and two loving nephews, John Donahue, his wife Sandy and their family of New Brunswick and Thomas Donahue, his wife Sandy and their family of Maine survive Sister Mary Rose.Visitation will be from 10 - 11 am on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am and interment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, MidAtlantic Community, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069.
