Dear Roberta, Kathleen,Arthur & Kevin,
Our deepest sympathy to all.
How blessed we have all been to have known all the ''Flanagan'' family. [Most all ,since we don't know the little ones.] Art will always be remembered for his many talents, his famous stories, his upbeat attitude, and his loyalty to the folks and things he cherished. How proud he was of all your achievements and the goals he set for you. You had a dad that was so caring. We will miss him , his calls, his cards , his being. Art, you sure put up a good fight , but now its time for a date with Angie , shes been waiting for you. Till we meet again. . Sorry we couldn't be with you, as we are in Florida , but know we are thinking of you and keeping you in our hearts and prayers.

To My Dearest Dad,
I miss you sooooooooooo much already! When I'm sad I think about you and your life. How you loved and served your country, your never ending love and support through difficult times, or all the peoples lives that you graciuosly touched. I remember the brave solider who fought to the end and how wonderful it was that you constantly gave to our community. There is no better role model!!! I am proud of who you are and only hope that I can be all that you were. Enjoy everlasting peace with Mommy. Luv, Bobbie

I am honored to say this amazing man was my grandfather. I could have not asked for a better poppy, through the toughest times, my poppy always brought out the positive side of the situation. He was a man that would do absolutely anything for anyone. I have nothing but great memories of him and I was lucky enough to spend just about everyday with him through the last month up until he passed away. And even up until that point, even when he was struggling, he always remained positive and happy. He continuously reminded me how proud he was of me, and all of his grandchildren. He was hands-down, the proudest grandfather I have ever met. I know he will continue to watch over me up there with my nanny. I LOVE YOU POPS! give nanny a hug and a kiss for me.

When I read all of the memories that people have shared with my Poppy I know that I am blessed to be able to say that he was my grandfather. In looking at all of these memories I have to say I wish that I knew the man in the navy, or the firefighter, or the manager of the general store etc. It is just amazing to me all of the different, amazing things Poppy was able to do in his life. Although I wasn't fortunate enough the know all of these other sides of my grandfather, I feel most fortunate to have been able to know the Arthur J. Flanagan Jr. that I knew. I knew a man that would be there for his family regardless of anything. I knew a man who, if given the chance, would take away every ounce of pain his children of grandchildren were feeling. I wrote a song that says Poppy is the strongest man I have ever met and as far as I am concerned, there has never been a truer statement spoken. I feel happy, lucky, blessed, and undeserving when I say that Poppy has been the best grandfather anyone could ask for. He has and always will be there when I need him. I love you so so much Poppy and I will make you proud. Rest in Peace my angel! Say hi to Nanny for us. <3

Artie has been a part of my life for 50+ years because Art and Pete served on the USS Benham together and continued their friendship until Pete death in November 2004. We enjoyed many good times together visiting with the little ones at the grocery store and all the trips with the Benham Sailors. I'll truly miss our phone conversations. Much love Artie.

Art: What a wonderful man you were. My children and I were blessed to have you in their lives. You always had time for them and I know you will be the guardian angel on their shoulders. We enjoyed your visits parked out in our driveway and laugh at the fun times we had with you. You always had an amazing story to share with us about the many adventures your life had taken you on. Cullen still tells the story of messing with the buttons on your oxygen machine which made the few little hairs you had flap in the breeze. Caragh reads the books you sent her daily. Although life takes us in many different directions and down many paths, you were always there. We will miss you every minute of every day. May God Bless you and I am sure this is not goodbye, but just until later.... WE LOVE YOU!

While growing up in Warren in the 70's, the "General Store" was the center of what was going on in town. It was a time when Warren was more like Mayberry and less like whatever it is today. Life sure was simpler back then and I always look back fondly on spending time at the Flanagan's home with the kids and with Art as he trained me at Co.#3 which was the beginning of a firefighting career that spans 32 years and still going. May his memory be eternal.

Peace be with the Flanagan family at this sad time. Another great Warren Twp. fireman that helped form the township fire department has gone to be with the rest of the good olde guys. We will always remember Art fondly being at the general store, fighting fires together, and being a member of the Warren Auxiliary Police long before Warren had a Police Department. Art gave of himself many many hours to the community. Art, rest peacefully and say hello to Dad and all the rest of the Warren Heros! God Bless.
