Obituary of James L. Miller, Sr.
James L. Miller, Sr., age 86, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. He was born in Olyphant, PA and had lived in Bayonne and Jersey City before moving to Watchung in1952. He lived there for 44 years and then moved to Readington Township in 1996.Mr. Miller served in the Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific Theater of Operations for 2 years. Prior to his retirement in 1995, Mr. Miller was a self-employed builder and service station owner.He was a Life Member of both the Watchung Fire Dept. and the Watchung Hills BPOE Lodge No. 2252, the Watchung Exempt Fireman's Association, and Wilson Memorial Church.He is predeceased by his son, James L. Miller, Jr., his parents, Loren and Ruth Miller, his brothers, Carl and Gerald and his sister, Betty.Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Rudh Miller; his daughter, Katherine Rose of Plainfield; his son, Douglas Miller and his wife Jennifer of Flemington; his grandchildren, Erin, Hannah, Colleen, Meghan and Kelly; his sister June Tucker of South Amboy and his brother, Richard Miller of Avenel.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by interment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Watchung Fire Dept. 57 Mountain Blvd., or to the Watchung Exempt Fireman's Association, 31 Mountain Blvd., both of Watchung, NJ 07069.
