Obituary of Charles H. Copper, Jr.
Charles H. Copper, Jr., 76, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Easton, Maryland, Charles lived in Orange before moving to Plainfield seven years ago. He had retired fifteen years ago after more than thirty years with the former Bamberger's retail store in Plainfield and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1954. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family members.
Charles joined the Masonry in 1978 and attained the Thirty-Second Degree. He served as Worshipful Master of Saint John's Lodge No. 744 -A&ASRM from 1984 to January 2006 - 22 years of faithful service. He was also a member of the Worshipful Master's Council of King Hiram Grand Council of Deliberations and was a member in good standing of the Supreme Council of American, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons until August 2007 when he retired due to failing health. Even in retirement, he remained on the Lodge roster and served as advisor.
Predeceased by six siblings, Charles will be fondly remembered by his surviving sister, Edna V. Copper of Plainfield, and a sister-in-law, Anne Jordan Copper of Boardman, Ohio, as well as twelve nieces and nephews, a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield. Visitation will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. on Saturday morning prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
