Obituary of Dorothy Ruth Garvey
Dorothy Garvey, age 88, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at her residence with her loving and supportive family and friends by her side. Dorothy was born in Easton, PA and resided in North Plainfield before moving to Warren 45 years ago.Dorothy was the Co-Proprietor of Garvey Chair Rentals in Plainfield for 20 years and retired in 1979.She belonged to the Qouto Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Dunellen, NJ, Travco Motor Club, and the SWIM Program. Dorothy was a very active member in SWIM since 1987 and during those years she held the offices of President, Vice President, Treasure and Secretary. Dorothy was once Quoted saying, "Without SWIM, I wouldn't be walking today. It's not just water therapy, it's complete Therapy." After her retirement Dorothy traveled extensively throughout the United States with the Travco Motor Club.Dorothy was a very loving and outgoing woman that shared her strength and worldly knowledge with all people that were fortunate enough to become part of her life.She is predeceased by her husband Daniel J. Garvey in 1994 and her sister Kathryn Mayfield in 1992Dorothy is survived by her daughter Ruth Effner of Florida; two granddaughters, Kim Walker and her husband Jamie of Dadeville, Alabama and Colleen Crill and her husband Howard of Florence South Carolina; six great grandchildren, Dallas, Charlotte, Duncan, Julia, Billy and Patricia Kaylee; one brother, Franklin Smith of North Plainfield; two nephews Scott and Raymond; and many dear friends.The funeral will held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 9:00 am from Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 am Mass of the Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
