Obituary of Louise Paone

Warren: Louise Paone, age 80, died suddenly on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.Louise was born April 1, 1928 in Schuyler, Nebraska to the late Frank and Rose Kopecky and grew up with an older sister Evelyn and a younger sister Kay. She attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, receiving a B.S. degree and graduate degree in Nursing in 1951. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Passavant Hospital and then at Children's Memorial Hospital, both in Chicago, IL before continuing at Colfax Medical Group in Denver, CO and concluding at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Louise married Dr. Cosimo Paone on July 10, 1954. While she gave up her career shortly after marriage in order to raise a family, she continued to stay active in nursing. She was a member of the League of Education Advancement for Registered Nurses ("LEARN") and volunteered for the Blood Drive of Summit and the Red Cross for many years. She also volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Mountain Park School library and Columbia School library. She was a lifetime member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and the New York Society of Nebraskans.Louise enjoyed her family, golf, swimming, reading, museums and especially travel. She traveled to all 50 states and more than 50 foreign countries in 6 continents. She lived in Berkeley Heights for 33 years before moving to Warren 21 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Dr. Cosimo M. Paone; her three sons, Michael Paone and his wife Barbara of Berkeley Heights, Mark Paone of New York, NY and Bruce Paone of Chicago, IL; one sister, Evelyn Whitaker of Gering, NE and 2 grandchildren, Robert and Courtney. Her daughter, Karen Ann Paone predeceased her in 2007.Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, 167 Mount Bethel Road, Warren. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, 145 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge. .In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in the name of Louise Paone to the University of Nebraska Foundation, 2285 South 67th Street, Suite 200, Omaha, NE 68106, and marked "for the College of Nursing History Museum".
