Obituary of Edward M. Sullivan

Edward M. Sullivan, age 83, died on Friday March 27, 2009 at his home in Basking Ridge. Mr. Sullivan was born in Lyndhurst and had resided in Plainfield, Watchung and Basking Ridge. He also had a home in Normandy Beach, NJ After graduating from Plainfield High School Mr. Sullivan went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. Later, attending night courses he earned his Law Degree from Fordham University in New York. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the New York State Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Florida State Bar Association. Mr. Sullivan practiced law for over 52 years retiring in 2006. He had been the senior partner of McDonough and Sullivan Law Firm in Watchung, retiring in 2006. He was a past member of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church in Watchung, where he was head of their parish counsel. He had also attended Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren. He is predeceased by his mother Mary M. Hoffman and father Michael E. Sullivan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Helen (McDonough) Sullivan; three sons, Michael Sullivan and his wife Cathy of Pohatcong, NJ, Peter Sullivan and his wife Catherine of Branchburg, NJ and Mark Sullivan and his wife Laura of Newtown, CT; three daughters Patricia Dillon and her husband William of Merrimac, MA, Nancy Helm of Salem, VA, and Marrianne Sullivan and her partner Debra Bunker of Bethesda MD; two sisters Doris Chabak and Barbara Huffman. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren Timothy, Katie, Ryan, Tara, Melissa, Kylie, Christopher, Maggie, Drew, Tricia, Meaghan, Sarah, Patrick, Harrison, Nelson, Hayden, Tori, Quin, Teagan, and Nate. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday March 30, 2009 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ followed by a 12:00 am mass of the resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church in Warren. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
