Dear Bridget, Stu, Pat and all the family,
John had been a very important part of my life for a long time. He introduced me to sights, songs and other experiences (SMWIKTS) that are invaluable to the person I have become today. His fearless and enthusiastic approach to life was an inspiration. He was a wonderful sounding board for all my thoughts, even if they did not make any sense. He had patience and caring and I will miss him. I am sorry that I have not kept in touch. I am humbled by the many people who also love and miss him. Although I haven't known Bridget and the boys, I know how proud he was of his family. This was always so important to him. I send my sympathies to you and the whole family. I am very disappointed that I will not be able to attend the memorial. Moving away has involved many sacrifices. This is a great loss but I am extremely grateful that I had the chance to know him and love him and that he has such a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

I only knew John through my son, Ernesto Gaglione. I met him just a few times. Ernesto spoke of him quite a bit. Most of his comments were about what a great friendship they had since their school days. Most recently,he told me what a wonderful family life he had with his wife and sons. I believe he was impressed! I can only offer my good thoughts and prayers to you, John's family. Hang on to all the beautiful memories you can! Sincerely, Jill Cressman (Ernie's Mom

Dear Bridget and Mr. and Mrs. Malin,
My name is Matthew Burke, and I wasn't a close friend of John's--- he was a couple of years ahead of me in high school--- but I met him through Kenny Topolewski and Danny Soto, and I ended up hanging out with him a number of times over the years (mostly at the Sun Tavern). Every time I met John, we would end up talking for hours about poetry and music, and eventually the conversation would always steer back to Bob Dylan (I'm also a pretty big fan). I always enjoyed talking to him--- he was insightful and sincere and so incredibly intelligent. I remember being a little intimidated by him the first couple of times I met him, but then being surprised at how genuine and articulate he was. I truly enjoyed the time that I got to spend with him.
I can't imagine what you're going through, but please know that I am so very sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Matthew Burke

I will always remember your story of the doctors needing to break John's collar bone upon delivery because of his size. He made a big impression then, and his big personality bloomed. It was always a joy to talk with him and it is wonderful to know that he had a wife and three sons. Pat and Stu, I am still in shock over reading this news. It has shaken both Larry and me. It makes me so sad to think how much you are grieving and how much pain you must feel. May you be lifted up by the thoughts and prayers of all the people whose lives you have touched over the years. May each day bring you a little closer to peace and comfort.

My heart and prayers go out to you, Bridget and your three little boys. John had a wealth of knowledge and information to impart on those who would listen. I enjoyed many of his stories and rolled my eyes to the words of wisdom he would tell my boys. If anything he made me laugh and smile. He often impressed me with his intelligence. His wisdom and knowledge will live on in his sons. God Bless You.

If I were to write down all of my memories of John, it would be be an ocean of words. I was one of his closest friends. He was a very funny guy. He was a man's man. You could always count on a good time when he was around. He was always joking, always laughing, and yet he would always be able to engage in an intellectual conversation with you (even if you didn't always agree :).
I will miss him dearly. I gotta have a good cigar soon and a glass of liquor and listen to some Dylan. I love you Malin.

John had a magnetic personality that defied you to dislike him. He could light up a room with his good humor and personality, and he was able to face the most difficult tasks with a positive attitude. John cannot be replaced as he was not only a co-worker, but a friend. My heart goes out to his wife and children. He will be missed.

The shocking loss of one so young can only be tempered by the fact that John knew he was truly loved by his family and friends. While I cannot imagine the depth of your pain, I know that John's love is surrounding you all as well and should be a source of comfort for you, now and in the future. My sincerest sympathy.

I only had the priviledge to know John for the past four years but during that time I came to regard him as a true friend.
John was one of those rare people that God gave us to make the world a more entertaining place. His larger than life personality, his incredible sense of humor and his perpetually positive attitude brightened all of our lives.
If the measurement of a life is the number of people you have touched, then John lead a rich life, indeed.
