Sister Regina Smith, Sister of Mercy (former Sister Mary Incarnata)Sister Regina 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, NJ.Sister Regina was born and raised in Phillipsburg, NJ and attended Saints Philip and James Elementary and High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1938 and received a BA degree in Business Administration from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ and an MA degree in Education and Philosophy from Catholic University, DC.Over the years, she ministered within the Diocese of Trenton, Camden and Metuchen as well and the Archdiocese of Newark. She taught at Cathedral HS, Trenton, and Saint Mary HS in South Amboy, Camden Catholic HS, Cherry Hill, and Phillipsburg Catholic.Sister Regina spent 25 years at Georgian Court College, Lakewood as registrar, director of admissions and academic dean. She was also academic dean at Mount St. Mary Academy, Watchung. She assumed many positions at Red Bank Catholic, including director of student personnel services and administrative assistant. She revitalized the guidance department at Red Bank Catholic and implemented a much-needed college counseling service where 99 percent of the student body was college bound. She also worked in the Guidance Office.Her last assignment was at the newly merged Union Catholic High School, Scotch Plains. She was appointed director of the Office of Institutional Development. She was responsible for recruitment, admissions and alumni relations.After a long and varied career in dedicated service as a Sister of Mercy, she retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center.She was a deeply spiritual woman, totally committed to the service of God.Her sisters, Patricia Norton of Trenton, NJ and Eileen Schedler and her husband, John of Whitehall, PA and several nieces and nephews survive her.Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center onFriday, May 15, 2009. Wake from 9:30 - 11:00 am followed by mass of Christian burial at 11:00am.Burial in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.Memorial Contributions may be made to Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community, Mount Saint Mary, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069
