Obituary of Edward Bernat

Edward Bernat, age 85, died on Saturday May 9, 2009 at The Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in West Frankfort , IL , Mr. Bernat had also resided in South Plainfield, and Smithville, NJ before moving to Owensboro, KY four and a half years ago. Prior to his retirement Mr. Bernat worked as a plumber for Plainfield Plumbing and Heating, and Binsky and Snyder. He was a member of Plumbers Local 24. Mr. Bernat is a veteran of World War II having served in the Air Force as a Tail Gunner from 1943 to 1945. During his time of service, Mr. Bernat was a Prisoner of War from July of 1944 to March of 1945. He was Honorably Discharged from the Military Service in November of 1945. He was a member of the VFW Post 6763 in South Plainfield, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean L. Bernat; Three daughters; Bonnie Michael, Wendy Gupta and her husband Dr. Mukesh Gupta, and Nancy Bernat. He is also survived by three grandchildren Kara Fisher, Alexander Gupta and Caitlin Gupta. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday May 15, 2009 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ 07969 followed by interment at Springdale Methodist Cemetery in Warren, NJ. The visitation will be on Thursday May 14, 2009 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
