Obituary of Beatrice Block

Beatrice Block, age 95, died on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at The Woodlands Genesis Eldercare in Plainfield. Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident. Prior to her retirement, Miss Block was employed by the Board of Education in Plainfield as an elementary school teacher in the Maxson Middle School and the Woodland Elementary School. Miss Block received a BS degree in Education from Newark State College in 1933. She was past president of the North Plainfield Women's Club and Sunday School Teacher at Temple Shalom in Plainfield. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, traveling and was an avid reader. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Pauline Block in 1963 and Muriel R. Littman in 2005. Surviving are a nephew, David B. Littman and his wife Deborah of Scotch Plains and a grandniece, Alexandra Littman of Scotch Plains. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield followed by the interment at Hebrew Cemetery in South Plainfield.
