I would like to say a few words about Hermine and her family...
Horst...i can speak for all of your family and friends when i say that I am sorry that you had to go through this. It has been a tough year; first finding out about Hermine’s cancer, then your mother passing away and not being able to travel back home to be with her, and then helplessly watching your wife go through this … especially during her last days.
Unfortunately, it takes circumstances like this to test a person’s limits… and you have not only done all the right things, you have done them in a way that would make Hermine proud. For this..you have earned much respect from many people but especially from your daughters. Thank you
And thank you Lissi…you knew Hermine the longest…According to your old note in Hermine’s yearbook…you may have thought --she didn’t want you for a sister--, but you know that’s not true. I have never had a sister, but if I could pick one, I’d want someone who would drop everything in an instant and hop on a plane with barely a thing and be there when it matters most.
For Hermine, life began hard and ended hard…she may have deserved more…
Hermine brightened our lives by doing little things for everyone. To her, life was best when she had a gift to share or some help to offer, whether for family, for friends, or for strangers.
I have often felt blessed to have such an amazing mother-in-law. I will always be grateful for the time she spent with Ollie, Abby, and Lukey
Our Omi will be missed. May God Bless Her.

Hermine, I know you are watching over us and are in a better place now and I will always cherish the good memories (Western Night, jack-in-the-box, family parties, late nights at the DC, etc.) and talks we've shared; every time I wrap myself up in your blanket I'm going to be reminded of your smile, your laughter, the way you crinkled your nose, and your good advice...and I promise I'm going to follow through with what you told me to! Ich liebe dich!
