Obituary of John F. Martinkovic, Jr.
Edison: John F. Martinkovic, Jr., age 65, died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born and raised in Plainfield and had lived in Edison for the past 15 years.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Martinkovic was a Security Supervisor at L.A. Dreyfus in Edison for 13 years. He was a member of the Plainfield Police Dept. during the riots in Plainfield.
He was a member of the Plainfield Rescue Squad and a former communicant of St. Mary's Church in Plainfield. He was a Charter Member of the Jackson Elks #2744 and was a Knight of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Council 6201 in Jackson.
Mr. Martinkovic was a passionate surf fisherman and would often carry a 20 lb backpack filled with his fishing supplies.
Mr. Martinkovic is survived by his wife of over 23 years, Mary Lou Dice Martinkovic; his sons, John Michael of South Plainfield, Matthew Martinkovic of Manville and Brian Obendorfer of Cypress, TX; his daughter, Christine Portnoy of Marlboro and his four grandchildren, Rachel, Dylan, Courtney and Hunter.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, July 10th at 9:15 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th St., Plainfield followed by a 10:00 am funeral mass at St. Mary's RC Church in Plainfield. Cremation will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9.
