Obituary of Hans Bloink
Hans Robert Bloink, M.D.
Watchung: Dr. Hans Robert Bloink, age 85, died on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Born in Plettenburg, Germany he moved to the United States when he was 5 years old and resided in Roselle and Elizabeth before settling in Watchung 25 years ago.
He attended the Citadel in South Carolina, for 2 years before being called into active duty in the United States Army during World War II. After the war he received his B.S. Degree from Rutgers University and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He received his medical degree from the Long Island College of Medicine in 1948. As a German-speaking intern, he was once asked to speak to an unknown German patient who was thought to be homeless. After Dr. Bloink had successfully treated him, it was discovered that the patient was Albert Einstein. During the Korean Conflict he Served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
In the 1950's he was a member of the State Board of Medical Examiners and in 1964 he was a FAA Medical Examiner. In the early 60's he started the Men's Health Club at the YMCA in Elizabeth. He became a private pilot in 1963; in 1968 he ran a seaplane base in Port Elizabeth. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in the 70's and 80's.
He was the Doctor for the city of Elizabeth for twenty years.
Among his many and varied interests were physical fitness, swimming, boating, collecting antique cars and traveling to the Caribbean. He was also a licensed pilot and a ham radio operator. Above all he loved and devoted his life to his wife, family and his two beloved dogs.
Surviving is his wife Marily H. Bodamer Bloink of 42 years; his children Barbara Bloink Manahan, Esq. and her husband The Honorable Thomas Manahan; Robin Bloink, Ventura, Esq. and her husband Michael Ventura, Esq. Hans R. Bloink, Jr. and his wife Beth Bloink; James B. Bloink and his wife Liz Bloink; Donna L. Bloink; Kristan Bloink Gottmann and her husband Steven H. Gottmann, Esq. Heidi Bloink Alport and her husband Robert J. Alport; twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two nieces, Kim Long and Karen Jones.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 10:00 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
