Obituary of Elvira Horster

Elvira Wagner Horster 94, died Friday July 17th, at Greenbrook Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Greenbrook, N.J., after a long illness. She was born in New York City, but has resided in Warren since 1935. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Barbara Zeller Wagner. She was predeceased by her three sisters Winifred W. Wagner, Vivian W. Carson and Mina M. Nahodyl, who recently passed away on July 12th. Elvira was a graduate of The Hospital and Home for Special Children, formerly of Newark, N.J. She was one of twelve graduates in the Class of 1938. Elvira spent 55 years working in various phases of the nursing profession. Her last job was as an Industrial Nurse at the former Kentile Floors Plant in South Plainfield, N.J. She retired in 1993. After her retirement, Elvira enjoyed going to the Atlantic City Casinos and meeting friends and acquaintances for lunch at local restaurants. She also attended the Warrenbrook Senior Center and enjoyed many programs and playing bingo. Elvira is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hodge of South Plainfield, her grandson David Hodge of Bedminster and two nieces and three nephews. Friends may call at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung N.J. on Thursday, July 23rd, from 2-5pm. On Friday, July 24, visitation is from 10-11am followed by a funeral service by Pastor Sara Olson-Smith of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, North Plainfield. Private interment to follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 9 Mercer Ave. North Plainfield, N.J. 07060, in her memory.
