Obituary of Seymour H. Goldberg

Seymour H. Goldberg, age 84, died on Wednesday, July 29th 2009, at his home in Scotch Plains. Born and raised in Elizabeth, he resided in Union before moving to Scotch Plains forty-three years ago. Seymour received his undergraduate degree from Colorado A & M University; he then attended Newark College of Engineering where he received Masters Degrees in both Architecture and Civil Engineering. He founded the firm of Benoist, Goldberg and Shapiro thirty-five years ago. He worked as both a registered Architect and licensed Civil Engineer. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II, working with the Army Corp of Engineers. While stationed in Belgium and France he served in General Patton's 3rd Army. A member of the American Society of Engineers, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Architecture and was on the Planning Boards of Union Twp. and Scotch Plains. Predeceased by his wife Betty Kleinberg Goldberg in 2005. He is survived by his children Richard Goldberg and his wife Jamie Greenfield and Wendy Goldberg and her husband Richard Friedenreich; 5 grandchildren Jake, Dana, Maggie, Alex and Zach. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31st, at 12:30 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield with Rabbi Bennett Miller. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
