North Plainfield: Matthew J. Carlomagno, 84, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at his home.
Born in Plainfield, he has resided in North Plainfield his entire life.
He attended St. Joseph's School and was an altar boy at St. Joseph's R.C. Church. After graduating from North Plainfield High School in 1942, he attended New York University before being drafted in 1943 into the US Army. He was stationed in Belgium during WWII, serving as a Sergeant in the Medical Corps. After his discharge, Matthew attended Rutgers College of Pharmacy, receiving a BS degree in Pharmacy.
Upon graduating, he was employed by local area pharmacies as well as the Runnells Specialized Hospital Pharmacy.
Matthew was a member of the Flying Eagles, a social sports club in North Plainfield and the Italian American Club.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Millie DeVita Carlomagno; three sons, John of Bridgewater, Joseph of Hoboken and Matthew and his wife Cathy of Atlanta; a daughter, Mary Scannicchio and her husband, Frank of Hoboken; a sister, Rose McConnell of Massachusetts and two grandchildren, Lee Rachel and Matthew.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 am from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Resurrection at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in North Plainfield and entombment at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung. Visitation Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
