Obituary of Julia E. Hofmann

Julia E. Hofmann, age 93, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born and raised in Holland Michigan, she lived in Linden before moving in with her sons Paul and then John. She has lived in Warren since 2008. Julia attended St. Mary's College in Grand Rapids, Michigan graduating with a BS in Nursing. She served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. She met her husband in 1941 at Ft. Bragg in NC and was stationed in North Africa and Italy as well. After her Honorable Discharge in 1946 she married her husband John Arthur Hofmann and started a family. She worked at Elizabeth General Hospital as an R.N. while raising her three children. She moved to Bricktown where she continued nursing until her retirement in 1988. A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church she acted as Church Librarian and a Lectern. In her spare time she attended Ocean County Community College, loved reading, traveled extensively throughout the country and was an avid painter who had won several awards at local art shows. Mrs. Hofmann doted on her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was predeceased by her husband John Arthur Hofmann in 1974. Surviving are her children Mary Ellen Sargent and her husband, Lynn; John A. Hofmann and his wife, Donna; Paul T. Hofmann and and his wife, Beatriz; grandchildren Stacie, Todd, and Lisa Jascott; Melissa, Jennifer, Daniel, Sebastian, Alexander and Spencer Hofmann; Nicole and Christopher Mier. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Vincent dePaul Church in Stirling on Friday, September 25th at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation is Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Susan G.
