Obituary of Mary D. White

Mary (McDonough) White Somerset: Mary (McDonough) White, age 102 died on Friday, November 13, 2009 at McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. She was born and raised in North Plainfield and later moved to Plainfield after her marriage. She then moved to Warren Township and Marshall's Creek, PA and back to North Plainfield. Mrs. White was a graduate of North Plainfield High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from New Rochelle College in New York. Prior to her retirement, she was a teacher at Warren Middle School and taught English at the Villa Maria Nursing Home. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in North Plainfield, a member of the Laurel League of Plainfield, the Alumni Association of New Rochelle and volunteer for the Villa Maria. Mrs. White is predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. White in 1981; her brother, Andrew McDonough and her sisters, Rosanna Moriarty, Catherine J. Newmeyer and Nora Scherer as well as her niece Mary Ellen Imhof. She is survived by several nephews and nieces; Joseph Moriarty of Manville; Betty Ann Barr and Patricia Kelly, both of Tucson, AZ, Patty Reed of Scotch Plains and David McDonough as well Harold Scherer. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 17th from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Plainfield. Interment will be at St, Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
