Born and raised in Elizabeth, he attended St. Mary's High School, Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and New York University School of Retailing. As one of "The Greatest Generation," Gerry proudly served his country during World War II, was stationed in Normandy and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning from the war, Gerry pursued a career in the home furnishings business. He joined Koos Brothers' Rahway store in 1946 and rose through the ranks as salesman, buyer, divisional merchandise manager, and, ultimately, executive vice president. He was instrumental in the design and development of all branch stores. When Koos Brothers merged with Huffman & Boyle, he was transferred to the executive offices of Huffman-Koos in Hackensack and operated from there until 1976. He was associated with Bloomingdale's, New York City, for a short period of time before starting his own freelance interior design business in which he was actively involved until 2002. He was a longtime member of the American Society of Interior Designers, the New York Furniture Association, and the New Jersey Furniture Association. He resided in Colonia for 23 years, summered in Avon-by-the-Sea until moving there year-round in 1983, and later moved to Wall Township in 1996. He was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Spring Lake. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gerry was a true gentleman and a gentle man with a love of music, antiques and design.
