Obituary of Dorothy Ruth DeVita
Dorothy Ruth Harriet DeVita, wife, mother and cook extraordinaire, died peacefully on Tuesday July 2, 2013.
Dorothy, born in Brooklyn New York July 22, 1925, daughter of Peter and Mary Guardino (nee Ferriere), was proud of her Sicilian heritage. She married her lifelong sweetheart Frank, a Navy veteran of WWII, just after the end of the war, and started their family in Newark, New Jersey. Frank and Dorothy, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November, resided in Bridgewater New Jersey for the last 30 years.
She was the youngest 87 you could ever meet, with a zest for life and a talent for bringing people together through her love, caring and cooking.
If you ever tasted her cooking, shared her laughter, seen her mischievous grin, shared a glass (or two) of wine with her, or understood how much she cared, you know how much she will be missed.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Frank, her children Elizabeth McDowell and her husband Robert, Frank and his wife Carol, and Richard and his wife Amy, her grandchildren David Sandford and his wife Sandra, and Jason Sandford and his wife Kara, Frank, Christine, Mary and Anthony DeVita, and her great grandchildren Haley, Emily, Daniel, Isabella, and Zakary Sandford.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, followed by interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington. Visitation will be at Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung, NJ on Friday July 5, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm, and 7 to 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Saint Jude Tribute Program, Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or donors@stjude.org.
Have a blessed day. Te Amo.
