Obituary of Joseph Masciana

Joseph Masciana, age 85, died on Monday, February 15th, 2010 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Calabria, Italy he came to the United States in 1954 settling in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn before moving to Somerset 6 years ago. Before coming to the United States he attended the University in Messina, Italy studying to be a lawyer. Prior to retiring in 1988, Joseph worked in the New York Garment District as an Elevator Operator for 25 years. He also worked at Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga Race Tracks, enjoyed playing poker with his friends and trips to Atlantic City. In his spare time Joseph loved reading and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Caterina Barresi Masciana; a son, Vincent J. Masciana and his wife, Diane of Cheshire, CT.; a daughter, Roseann O'Keefe and her husband, Richard of Green Brook; grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Ryan and Nicholas and a brother, sister and many family members living in Italy. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, Warren and cremation at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
