Obituary of Johnnie C. Haynes
Mr. Johnnie C. Haynes, 79, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Blakely, GA, he resided in Pemberton and Tuskegee, AL before moving to Iselin 4 years ago.
Prior to retiring in October of 1995, Johnnie was employed as a corrections officer for Trenton State Prison for 21 years.
He retired after 20 years from the US Army having served during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards including two Army Commendation Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Meritous Service Medal and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Award.
He was a former member of both the Second Baptist Church in Mt. Holly and the Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in Tuskegee, AL. He enjoyed both freshwater and ocean fishing and playing pinnochle and poker.
He was predeceased by a son, William Jones, Jr. and a great grandchild, Soweta Frazier.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Lovie C. Haynes; four daughters, Deborah Frazier of Opelika, AL, Brenda Brown of Riverdale, GA, Cynthia Hurst of Conyers, GA and Cathy Haynes of Plainfield, NJ; a sister, Addie Mae Carey of Rochester, NY, seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 3 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm followed by a 2:00 pm Funeral Service at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield. Interment will take place on Monday, April 5 at 1:30 pm at the Chapel at Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
