Joe was a spectacular man, he loved and was loved by many, especially children, he was veery proud of his family and set a great example to others in sharing happiness even when he was in pain most of the time. I will always miss his beautiful blue eyes and smile and most of all, spending time with him. He is without the pain now and we are the ones with the pain being without him.

Dear Pa Pa Joe,
I don't know where or who I would be today without you Pa Pa Joe, but I do know that I wouldn't be half the person I am today and I definitely wouldn't be at Bucknell. You have been a huge contributing factor in shaping me into the person I am today and will undoubtedly continue to impact me in the future. In two condolence cards that I received while at school there was this over riding theme of your loved one remaining in your memories forever, well they hit the nail on the spot Pa Pa Joe, you will ALWAYS have an indelible footstep on my heart and will remain in my memories forever. You were always there for me when I needed you whether it had to do with school, athletics, or just life in general. Although you were always though on me I am sure that I will look back and realize that were only doing it in my best interest. I already miss you saying “Tayler you have to do better come on there is no reason why you can’t throw your best.” I was really looking forward to living with you and spending time with you all summer. I wish I could have said good bye and thank you for everything you have done for me, but I know you are in a much better place. None of us wanted to see you suffer day in and day out, I just never though this day was going to come and I honestly still can’t believe its here. You were always so tough, even when we least expected you to get better some how you pulled through. Pa Pa Joe I know you are going to watch over me and protect me every step of the way. I just want to say thank you and let you know that I love you so much and miss you terribly. Good night Popum.
Love Always and Forever,
Tayler

Dear Pa Pa Joe,
Everything I have learned in school up to this point in my life could not have prepared me for the shocking news that I received on April 20, 2010. I just finished class and was sitting down to study in my 2-hour break, and that's when I saw the status message that flipped the days upside-down. I know that it's ok because you are somewhere now where you can feel no more pain or anguish. This is most definitely something awesome since pain is one of the most prominent feelings you have had over the past years.
Everyone keeps on telling me that it is ok for me not to be there, and my mom even told me that you told her not to let me come home. I just can not believe that you left us so quickly I wish I had more of a chance to say good bye and I love you one more time. Being this far away from home one of my biggest fears was definitely something like this happening. I know that you would want nothing more then for me to stay here and finish up my school year. Being away from the family now is so hard, but following my dreams is hard too and you were always there to encourage me. I love you Pa Pa Joe you were a great and we will all miss you more then can be imagined!
Love Always,
Jusztina

I never knew either of my grandfathers,or my uncles.I was extremely fortunate to know my Uncle Joe. I connected with him in a way that words can not describe.
He filled the role of my grandpa, and I will never ever forget him.
He will always be with me.
I will miss his jokes, I'll miss his laughter, I'll miss his jab, and I will miss him, "The Bull".
We love you.

My sympathies to your entire family for your loss. Joe was such a kind, funny, and personable man. I always appreciated how he would ask after me and my family whenever I was visiting NJ. He was such a good friend to my father, and I know he will miss Joe very much. Warm regards, Jacqueline Labate (Ernie's daughter)

The entire Labate/Burnham/Ponzio family are so sorry to hear about Joe's passing. He was always such a good friend of our family, especially dad's personal friend. The two of them would always compete to see who could tell the funniest joke. More importantly, dad always felt as if Joe was more like a brother and he is profoundly sad, as we all are. Joe was the first person who opened my eyes about the plight of wounded vets. He had a great sense of humor, was gracious, loving and caring and will be greatly missed. We are all so sorry for your loss.
